The Council on Economic Policies (CEP) and the German Institute of Development and Sustainability (IDOS) released the latest version of the Global Tax Expenditures Database (GTED) with expanded coverage and enhanced functionality. The update incorporates two additional countries, Egypt and Zambia, bringing the total to 111 reporting jurisdictions, representing over 50% of global jurisdictions. Data has been updated for 82 countries, adding 162 new country-year pairs to the GTED panel. The database now includes all tax expenditure reports published by governments up to 2023 and more than half of those published in 2024.
The GTED website has also been improved with new features allowing users to view, sort, and search disaggregated country information on country profiles, and to perform keyword searches for specific provisions across the entire database. These enhancements aim to improve data accessibility and usability.
Launched in 2021 by CEP and IDOS, the database continues to be updated, with remaining reports released in 2024 scheduled to be added in the coming months.
