Dr Raj Thamotheram is a well-recognised thought-leader in the field of long-term, sustainable investing. He is an independent adviser as well as the Founder of Preventable Surprises and the former President of The Network for Sustainable Financial Markets. Dr Thamotheram has 13 years experience of leading ESG (environmental, social and governance) teams, first at The Universities Superannuation Scheme, where he launched several collaborative engagement projects including Pharma Futures, the Enhanced Analytics Initiative, Institutional Investor Group on Climate Change, the competition (with FTfm and Hewitt) Managing Pension Funds As If The Long-Term Matters) and The Marathon Club.  He then moved to AXA Investment Managers where he developed the “RI Inside” strategy for mainstreaming ESG and also developed specialist RI products including the AXA Framlington Human Capital Fund.  He speaks and writes regularly (including a regular column in Investment & Pensions Europe) and has been nominated, by Global Proxy Watch, as “one of the 10 most influential figures in the corporate governance field”, first in 2004 and again in 2008.  Prior to working in the City, he was a consultant in corporate responsibility, worked in NGOs and originally trained and practiced as a medical doctor.
